MORE CAMPUS GROUP ADVISORY BOARD INTERVIEWS ON THE USER GROUP REPORT
Our look at the new Campus Group Advisory Board continues in this
edition. We also talk about the many vendors who have signed up to
support User Group University, and why their sponsorship is so important.
Guests include:
- Melissa Murphy of The Apple Student Core @ Emory talks about her busy
personal schedule, how ACE is taking their activities from the campus out
into the community, plans for their upcoming iMovieFest and why Apple
products appeal to students.
- Arman Assa of The North Carolina State University Mac Users Group
discusses how starting his group was inspired by a MacCentral article,
how they involve staff, faculty and students in both membership and
leadership roles, and what about MacOS X is important to students.
- Evan Chaney of the Western Mac Users Group at Western Washington
University outlines how he started his group with a small number of
people, why they count a strong social component as an important part of
their group, and why he wants his MUG to be a long-term presence on the
Western Washington campus.
The User Group Report is the audio series hosted by Chuck Joiner that
features interviews with people making news in the user group community.

RHODE ISLAND MUG SITUATION ILLUSTRATES IMPORTANCE OF APPLE LOCATOR UPDATES
One of the best resources Apple provides for MUGs is the Locator, the
part of the Apple User Group web site where visitors can find a
recognized Macintosh User Group near them. Unfortunately, many groups
don't always keep their web site link updated, meaning that potential
members or interested parties can't find them, or, worse, are linked to
something else.
Mac enthusiasts looking for the Rhode Island Macintosh User Group
recently received a surprise. RIMUG changed their domain to a .org to be
more reflective of their group, and to their horror, found that their
former URL pointed to an adult site. The process of updating the Locator
takes time and hadn't caught up. The situation has been corrected, but
illustrates the importance of knowing who's linked to you and being sure
that they are updated in plenty of time when you are making a change.
Thanks to Rick Taft and the team at RIMUG for alerting us to this story,
and allowing it to be used to illustrate the importance of timely updates
and review of your Locator information Be sure to visit their site (the
right one) to see what their group is doing.
NORTH COAST MAC USERS GROUP AT APPLE STORE EVENT
Was your group at the special Apple Store holiday shopping event last
Friday? North Coast Mac Users Group was...at the Emeryville store. Take a
look at how much fun they had. If your group attended one of the events,
let us know so we can help spread the word.
