Our group actually did this a few years ago. Through a relationship I had
made with him as a fellow Finale user, I had a contact with David Pogue, who
agreed to do an evening for us this way. He did it right from the comfort of
his Connecticut living room, controlling our computer via Timbuktu and
speaking to us over a speakerphone we had set up in the room. We had a blast
and it was a good evening.
I've been wanting to bring this subject up anyway, so thanks Johan. I really
believe in this idea. If no travel were involved, I think any number of
vendors would cooperate with a UG wanting to host a remote-control demo. But
aren't there ways to control a local computer remotely using the Web? Would
that be better than Timbuktu? And could the person doing the demo talk to us
also using a telephony application via the web if we also had a mic and a
telephony application? I confess I'm woefully under-informed about these two
areas.

Have you ever considered an out-of-the-box approach to getting vendors to

Possibly even use Timbuktu to have them control the machine doing the

demo...
