Joe, I'll answer these form our point of view. It would be interesting
to see how others respond.

Constructively, I would like to ask the list to list the benefits of
being
an Apple recognized MUG? This seems to be the current issue that is at
the
crux of what is being debated/fought over. What are the benefits?
A listing on a web page.
Could a MUG survive without Apple?
Without Apple or without Apple's aid? We've survived without any aid
from Apple.
Is Apple aware of our declining memberships?
Our membership isn't declining.
If Apple is aware of the challenges facing MUGs do they care? What
else would Apple be able to commit toward assisting MUGs in survival
and to thrive?
At this point, something akin to acknowledgement would be nice.
Currently apple lists the following as it's services for MUGs
What does Apple do to support user groups?
Provides a listing on a web page.
We send resource DVDs to Apple Ambassadors.
Not happened once in over 4 years.
We mail out marketing materials such as posters and t-shirts for
local user
group events. Request materials when you have upcoming events.
Not happened despite repeated requests.
We provide training materials.
Not available.
We host user group events at Macworld.
True, there's an User Group "thing" at Apple Expo in Paris once a year.
We work with a Macintosh User Group Store with special deals.
Not for non-US people.
We refer customers to user groups via the online locator and the
telephone
locator.
The one thing we do receive.
We also point customers to Apple user groups through product
registration and
support emails, through feature stories on the web, and with website
links
throughout www.apple.com.
"Throughout" is a strong term. The only reference to us has been on the
UserGroup site and it's the listing we had to write.
Do list members believe Apple does more? Does Apple fulfill this
support
for all MUGs?
Apple plainly does more for some.
