Hi Frank,
Many of us like to pay for what we get, even if that means that maybe I will
start "walking streets" for make ME and Apple happy ;)
but I'm sure not many would do it, right?!!!
The point here is what Melanie said, there is a low learning curve using
.mac instead of other app and places to host, etc and that make the point
for pay, clearly for me.
Still, there is people who has many doubts because they use the most of
services to try to reach the most people, like iTools, and the your own
domain and host, and this will add to cost to groups that like ours don't
have a fee subscription because we are more virtual than real in terms on
month meetings, so for me will be decide if I could pay both and other
services I have on my own, or quit some of them.
The other issue here is that Apple was getting "free" (since they have
costs) add when people were using the mac.com accounts, and we were proud to
say mac.com because that mean that I was a mac user, now Apple will reduce
costs but also those 2.2 MM of adds
Why instead of that (thinking laud since we don't know the costs) maybe
Apple could say, you can have your email only account by 10$ a year or be a
PRO and get all for 100$, so if let say 1MM turn down, now we could thought
about 10MM$ that could help, maybe it is not to much for costs but for me
looks like they will still have their 2.2 MM mac users supporting them.
Right now what hurt the most is that Apple will loose visibility on that
little detail that counted a lot for users.
It is not the same receive an email that say : email@hidden than one
that said email@hidden
immediately I know that you are like me, a mac user, and that make me smile,
because remember that we are 5%.....
Let face it, in the worst case can't Apple say forward mac.com accounts for
free?!!!!, at least you will be email@hidden even if then your mail goes
to your hotmail.com account ;)

I hope there won't be ads, but it's still cheaper than an AOL yearly
