Yes, we can find another vendor and I'm sure that9s not the issue with many
people. Of course you can find someone else at a lower price, but many of us
have invested our lives into the mac.com e-mail address and its not that
easy just to 'give it up' and change to someone else.
I remember one of the advantages of the mac.com e-mail was that it remained
the same regardless of your ISP changing. Now I'm in the situation so that I
feel like that I have to pay the annual subscription fee for everything just
to keep in contact with people and the websites that I visit and get e-mail
from. Its not easy to change your e-mail address, I feel that its actually
more difficult than changing your street address.
At this point for me, retaining my e-mail address is worth $49.95 per year
but its not worth it for many and offering a simple e-mail only plan for
those may be useful.
Apple may be trying to protect the entire platform through its virus
software and the only way to economically do it is to use .Mac. The fewer
people that have viruses are the fewer that will spread them.
