I have to strongly disagree. These are career people. How do you picture
an "average low-end, non-PowerUser"? They have people from all sorts of
jobs. What exactly would you prefer to see?

They are geared towards people who don't know their elbow from their
CPU! I mean, c'mon - they have positively 'Microsoft'ed their ads. 'You
can get WebMD with AOL'! I can get WebMD without AOL! These ads are not
geared towards "common folk." These ads are geared towards unsuspecting,
uneducated people. And a lot of people in their ads may talk "common",
but they sure look 'PowerUser' to me! And AOL is "huge" because they got
to the party first.

Sorry but that's the nature of the beast. If you purchase a car, there
is no way getting around the fact that you are going to have to fill it
with gas and occasionally have it serviced. And I'll bet that if you
added up the cost of every upgrade that you have made, you would be in
the price range of a new or newer Mac.

Yes, a better job could be done getting the information out there. And
that it is when UGs are could be most valuable.

with a non-G3, the #1 reason they don't upgrade is: money.
The #1 reason within my group is that 'it does what I need.' Not
everyone needs the latest and greatest, nor should they. Plus, there are
many sites that sell refurbs and people within UGs who are selling their
machines so that they can be on the bleeding-edge.

In this regard, I agree with you whole heartedly. But I find THIS stance
flies in the face of everything else that you have said. If we were able
to distribute older OSs, you will have removed any incentive for some
people to contemplate buying new Macs.
I get the distinct feeling that you are just as frustrated as every
other leader on this board and planet. Welcome to the game.
