** For people new to user groups:
1. Top Reasons to Join a User Group
-Instant friends. Just add Mac and stir. User groups are a great place
for people to find other Mac heads and just hang out. And you are
guaranteed that your new instant friends share some of the same
interests as you do! =)
-Accelerated learning. You can become a Mac expert on your own, in
time, or you can become a Mac expert much faster, with a MUG. The
sooner you become one the more you'll get out of your machine!
-Special privileges that normal Mac users don't get. Like face time
with representatives from your favorite developers or access to software
for evaluation and review purposes so you can try before you buy. Plus
you can ask around at meetings to see if anyone already has something
you're thinking about getting and find out how well they like it. Not
to mention getting to see what other members are doing with their Macs.
2. Top Questions about Joining a Group
-"What do you guys do?"
** For leaders:
3. Top Reasons to Start a User Group
-To meet other Mac fans and make some new friends! If nothing else,
just get together and do something fun! Who says it has to be Mac
oriented all the time?
-Because you want a place where representatives from developers you like
will come and talk to you and where you can talk to them face-to-face,
give 'em a piece of your mind about the latest product.
-Because you've been staring at your new iMac for months feeling
inspired to create but you need some ideas on what to do.
-Because you like the idea of being visited by Apple employees.
-Because you enjoy teaching others how to use computers and the Internet.
-Because you want to talk to someone who doesn't get tired of hearing
how sexy the new iMac is or how cool OS X has become and how much you
just *have* to have a new PowerBook Titanium.
4. Top Questions About Starting/Running a Group
-How do I get the initial word out? How do I organize a first meeting?
-What do you do at the first meeting?
-How do you build a sizeable membership base in the first place and then
how do you keep people coming back?
5. Top Resources for User Group Leaders
-This discussion list and the UG bulletin.
-Any web board forums that are out there. Essentially, any place where
people can interact with other people rather than reading static pages
of information. It's much more lively and interesting that way.
