Claudia,
AMUG was the publisher of probably the best known MAC shareware collection
in the world, BBS in a Box. We topped off our run with an AMUG DVD but
stopped selling it several years ago. Not because the internet lessened the
desire and sales, although that did happen. Not because the files had
viruses; definitely ran virus checking.
The main reason we stopped was ensuring that we had written permission from
every author of every piece of software in our collection. We would contact
the author ourselves to get written permission even if others were
publishing the file. Despite this, we would from time to time still get
letters or emails from authors saying the permission was revoked and asking
that their software not be published. The process became so cumbersome and
costly, that we gave it up.
Duping or publishing shareware without that permission exposes your group
and the few dollars that you'll make just may not be worth it.
