Group Myrtle Beach's Freeware Shareware disk.

I am told that our group got the developer's permission for every product on
our CD. There are more items at the web site than were on the disk. You will
need to check before you use items on the web site for your CD.
I found that most of the developers we contacted were more than willing to
have their products on our CD as long as we had the entire product (not
missing files like instructions, registration form, etc.). They asked that
you place the latest version of the software on your CD. They expect you to
price the disk to cover cost and a small profit. They all wanted to make sure
that your members understood that they still were expected to pay the
shareware fee on products they wanted to continue to use. Only one had
refused to let us use something on our CD because it was old and he no longer
supported the product.
If you would like to know what we had on our CD along with contact and
product info, I will send it to you. We contact each developer by email and
only used those that were approved for our use. We even contacted those
developers who indicated in their read me that we could distribute their
software. We almost always got a response within a few days. There was a
number of bounce back emails. When we set up the web site, we almost always
used the developer's web site as the place to download software, this way, if
there was a newer version, the people who were interest in downloading got
the latest version. That is something that most developers find important.
This is especially important for those developers who now have Power Mac, OS
9 and OS X versions of their software.
Setting up a CD is a time consuming process. Some groups use the CD's as
incitements for recruiting members. Other groups use it much like the old
Disk Of the Month (DOM). They give them to members monthly, or quarterly as
part of their membership perks. Still others sell them at meetings for $10 or
so. Please remember that Apple does not want groups to put system or system
updates on your CD's.
It is so much easier to create a CD as a team effort. It surly would burn out
one person very quickly.
