Direct from MacNN:
Apple among companies with worst BODs
Apple is named among eight companies in the October 7 issue of BusinessWeek
as having the worst boards of directors, according to a Reuters report. The
magazine used criteria such as "board independence and stock ownership for
the listing", noting reasons such as "granting hefty compensation packages
to flailing CEOs, having too many company insiders as members, and failing
to notice or stop abuses that were happening under their noses."
BusinessWeek surveryed 51 corporate governance experts and then conducted a
proxy analysis that graded companies on governance and performance measures.
Gap's board, where Steve Jobs serves as a Director, is also named on the
list along with the boards from Conseco, Dillard's, Kmart, Qwest, Tyson, and
Xerox.
