We have a shareware discounting program in the works
now, however -- quite frankly, shareware is already
almost always a super deal, considering the amount
of work that goes into the initial programming.
EG: a $25 package does presentations as well as
(some say better than) programs costing 5-times as
much... a $15 package that does text processing
nearly as well as the package costing 20-times as
much... a $29 graphics program that handles 90% of
the graphics capabilities of a program costing
32-times as much.
People will spend $1.95 for a 50-cent cup of coffee.
Last week's 'shareware pick' does some awesome tricks
and the fee is only $10.
There isn't much room to discount $10.
Our shareware community is an important one.
It needs as much support and 'coddling' as possible.
I've paid up to $300 for a $10 box with CD, and air,
called an "upgrade" ... yet I pay the fee for really
trusted shareware each time there's an upgrade.
Just because it's a great program -- because the
'value' of what I get needs to be acknowledged --
to show the author his work is indeed appreciated.
I don't advocate that for everyone -- but consider how
the programmer feels when it DOES happen.

How true.
You should, of course, encourage your members to
subscribe to the InfoManager list to keep themselves
current on special shareware and vendor offers.
New shareware offerings, deals, and promos, as well
as commercial ones are always part of both the
shareware department, and sent each monday morning
via the InfoManager weekly newsletter.
We need our shareware programmers.
And, also encourage your members to support the
shareware community.
Make them profitable, and the discounts will come.
:-)
