We have been having a 10-15 item raffle each month, the items for which come
from a variety of sources. We try to have at least one good item per month
($100+ value). O'Reilly's books we get for review are always useful as are sale
items picked up in quantity from CompUSA or from good deals mentioned on
www.dealmac.com. Older software from overstock sales are good when we can find them.
We don't pay "retail" for any of it, but since we have gone to a web-based
forum, the $$ saved on phone/broadband has allowed us to supply the raffle a bit
better. We will have a new 12" iBook for the October raffle (separate, higher
priced tickets). We also gladly accept donated items from our members and
presenters.
Giveaway items come in from time-to-time, too. On one of the welcome tables
we put out magazines, catalogs, tip sheets, lists of Mac-friendly ISPs, etc.
This is also where we'll put the stack of used floppies, really old copies of
software and books, free copies of AOL/Earthlink install CDs, free copies of
Yellow Dog Linux, O'Reilly's book catalogs, etc. This aspect of our meetings has
always been popular, and we don't usually have to take much back for the next
meeting.
