If you weren't aware, yesterday was the monthly "Mac meeting" day set by
meetup.com, the website that organizes gatherings of groups with similar
interests. In each metropolitan area, registered users are asked to vote for
one of several meeting venues (usually a bar or coffee house), and then RSVP if
they plan to attend. I've gone to the past two events in NYC and have always
run into other attendees who weren't aware that a User Group existed. Its a
good opportuntity to troll for new members.
