At present I still switch into OS 9 to use Claris Emailer with
Filemaker Pro 5's built-in scripting to accomplish this. Filemaker
works with past versions of Eudora also, but I've found Emailer to be
much faster than that. Eudora seems to want to draw a new message
window for each email my scripts create. Emailer avoids this, which
makes a hige difference.
I need to switch to OS X compatibility pretty soon. I've been thinking
upgrading my Filemaker or going back to AppleScript might be the best
approach.
Prior to Filemaker having its own email scripting, I used AppleScripts
I wrote to do it with Emailer and, before that, with an OSAX someone
had written (I don't remember the name now) that didn't need an email
application. Both have fallen out of service due to breakage with
software updates that I didn't have time to track down. When
Filemaker's abilities entered this area, that took over.
I haven't looked at the scripting capabilities of the most recent
version of Filemaker. If that works directly with Mail, that is
probably the easiest solution for me when I upgrade. Alternatively I
will probably eventually look into writing some AppleScript to make the
link between Filemaker and Mail.
24 U Email OSAX is another recent item that allows AppleScript to email
directly without an email application. I don't know if that would
provide an easier solution than scripting Mail, but it is another
option.
I too would be interested in hearing about solutions that others have
come up with, or with hearing from others about Filemaker's current
abilities in this area. Sample AppleScripts for Mail would also be
appreciated if anyone is so inclined.
