Jonas (and Matt) -
You are both so right...
Getting a copy of the MWSF keynote for $4.50 is a heck of a lot cheaper than
purchasing a ticket to fly to SF, stay in a hotel, etc.
The fact is that even Apple's vendors pay for POP as listed on Apple Sales
Web (yes - those flyers you waste when you walk into an Apple Store, a
CompUSA or an independent retailer are paid for by the individual vendor.)
And the fact is that while MUG's and MUG members keep shouting out what they
do for Apple that the vendors are the people selling the machines. (And yes
some do a better job than others - but that's not the point.) The point is,
yet once again, people are griping because they feel entitled. You know - gas
up here is almost at $1.60/gallon. I paid close to $15K for my car. Shouldn't
my gas be included as well? C'mon folks - until you started getting the
mailbox you didn't know it existed. On the other hand, as Chris Kiltz pointed
out, most of you don't even use it or find it useful. So be honest - how many
of you just want it because you can have it as opposed to really using it?
(That's rhetorical.) Let's see - if you paid $10.00/mailbox for 12 months
(including shipping) that would STILL be cheaper than buying an OS upgrade.
Factor in that you will probably get copies of stuff like iLife ($49), maybe
Keynote ($99) and the MW keynote speeches (no - I won't say priceless - but
certainly less expensive than travelling) and even $120/year is a bargain.
But the fact is that it doesn't come out monthly...so it's even less. And if
those who are being holier than thou about this are honest - could it be that
you a complaining because you feel you don't have to spend money on your own
upgrades?? C'mon - these tools are for MUG use. You STILL are expected to
purcahse your own copy of the programs for personal use. But I've heard some
of you boast boast about how you like your free copies of the software you
get from Apple, etc. so feel free to keep yelping and complaining and maybe
Apple will pull the plug on MUGs getting any of this because of the abuse
potential.
Then what will you all do? (Rhetorical again.)
