So, my question the the AUGD board is basically, what would you do

about people bringing their own personal computers and using them at

It depends on the type of meeting. If it's one of these social events (like
our next meeting or our meetings with the other groups) then it's likely
everyone will carry their own laptops and we have no problems with that!
In particular, if the meeting is with the other group in the area, these
guys love networked game sessions and carry laptops to play games across he
network is all the rage!
When it comes to presentations, I often bring my own iBook and hook it up to
the projector. I've had meetings where the other presenter brings in his own
Titanium and that is no problem for us.
Amazingly enough, when there IS a presentation, I guess most people are
pretty much absorbed into what's being discussed that they're not using
their own Macs anymore!
In regards to the second question, then, as we've no such experience, we're
being particularly open at BeiMac to allow folks to bring in their portables
at will.
The other group in the area, though, does have a problem (but they haven't
taken issue with it). There was a mega-meeting last December in which we
were involved in it. While there was a presentation on, say, localisation,
not everyone tuned in and some just simply started typing away gleefully. I
confess I didn't do my part then, too (bad, bad!) - at times. Still, the
other group apparantly seems undeterred and permits laptops.
As our group switched to a new meeting venue which offers wireless broadband
Web access, there will only be more people bringing their own laptops! ;-)
