So, my question the the AUGD board is basically, what would you do

about people bringing their own personal computers and using them at

meetings? Do you feel it is polite, rude? What rules would you

At Apple Corp of Dallas meetings, the presenter has always brought their
own machine for presenations. Of course, up until recently 90% of the
programs were vendor presentations. The club did spend the $$$ for a nice
projector about a year ago though.
At Cowtown MUG in Fort Worth, the presenter usually brings their computer
and over 50% of the presentations are from members. Of course, when the
presenter doesn't have a computer one of the officers volunteers their
machine.
I understand, that since I left Tulsa in 98, they have purchased a
Powerbook (they were given a projector). But still some presenters use
their own computer. There nearly all presenters are members.
In response to the question above however. Many members do bring iBooks
or Powerbooks and take notes on them. So far they haven't been a
distraction to the other members. Of course, if they did become a
distraction, it would be up to an officer to ask them to cool it. I
remember clubs once had a "sergent of arms". Maybe that office should be
considered for user groups. BTW - it is possible that the extra machines
in the room could be used as a substitute for the presenter's if for some
reason it couldn't be used.
