I have to echo Matt Johnston's comments regareding a way to deal with MS
Access and MS Project files. To that list I would add Visio which seems to be
on our Corporate "standards" list at work. Frankly, a lot of people who use
these applications are distributing native documents when they really should
be converting them into Adobe Acrobat even for the Windows users to whom they
are being sent. If all you need to do is read or review, a pdf file would
suffice. Of course, if we can't even get our own people to do that for our
existing Windows users, there's not a snowball's chance of getting them to do
it for Mac users.
I also agree that a way to interact with NetMeeting on PC's would be a real
boon.
At work, I am able to easily transfer files from Compaq Armada M700 to any
other Compaq Armada M700 using the built in Infrared ports, yet when I get
home I don't seem to be able to get my Armada to "talk" to my iMac's Infrared
port. If someone could make that easier, it would really help because I have
so far not found a way to get the iMac talking to the Compaq over an Ethernet
connection. That's probably because our IT people have locked up some aspect
of the Network Control Panel on our Compaq's. In any event, the Infrared door
seems to have been left wide open so long as I stick with Windows PC's and it
would be nice to have it opened for Windows to Mac connectivity. All I want is
a way to move files off the Compaq onto the Mac so I can burn archival CD's
but so far the way in which our IT folks have implemented security has
thwarted my attempts. And, yes, I think I can use my .Mac account but I was
looking for something a little faster!!
A way to interact with a FirstClass 3.5 Server natively under OS X would be
very nice. There is no way in which our club can afford to upgrade our tried
and true FirstClass 3.5 Server BBS but I hate having to go through Classic to
run FirstClass Client 3.51.
