The biggest thing I'd like to see is a replacement for MS Office
(bloatware). Appleworks is a start, but it's weak on the features of
especially Word & Excel. We already have iChat & Keynote (replacing
Messenger & Powerpoint). There's a couple potential suites out there
that could very easily pick up the ball & run with it.
We have the constant promise of AppleWorks 7 and OpenOffice is actually
rather usable in it's current X11 form. Excel is the real killer - I've
yet to find an app that reliably reads Excel files and retains forumlae
and graphs.
Also, some good flight simulator software (if it's out there, someone
point me in the right direction) - something on equal standing with
Flight Simulator 2002 Professional (MS Win only).
X-Plane is the only thing I've seen and it's more of a flight
simulator....hum...hard to explain...than a traditional "flying a
plane" simulator.
And, with MS picking up Connectix (Virtual PC & sister programs), it
would be great to have an alternative PC emulator just in case MS
somehow cans VPC (I'm not trying to start a debate on this
possibility!!).
The only other one that runs on X, is Bochs. It's nowhere near as fully
featured as VPC but it does work somewhat. There's a Mac OS X port at
bochs.sourceforge.net if anyone is interested. I keep a copy of it just
in case.
