I received this contact from an AACUG member, and immediately
realized how lacking we are in "First Contact" action
information.
I'm preparing a short "info" card for member groups to publish
in their newsletters and distribute to their community parent
organizations for just such situations.
Read this:

Ladies and gentlemen, this is not SPAM, but a much more serious offense.
This member didn't know what to do so she reported it to us.
By that time it was too late.
It made me realize how important it is to empower our members with
the tools and knowledge to act quickly and accurately.
REPORT THE INCIDENT IMMEDIATELY - AS SOON AS IT HAPPENS.
(if you can.) It's really the only way they can try to
catch the criminal.
REPORT INCIDENCES:
Information entered into this form will be forwarded to law enforcement
for investigation and review:
https://secure.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/CybertipServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US
If you can, keep the computer on and with a live connection because
the form will ask questions about the connection, links, etc. for
evidence surrounding the incident.
Once you've completed the form, BEFORE sending it, PRINT IT.
You'll have the information at hand. You should then CALL your
local law enforcement agency and report the offense as well.
BEFORE it happens again you should go to:
http://www.fbi.gov/contact/fo/fo.htm
and find the field rep for your area.
You will get addresses, phones, and web links.
Here's what happened to your child:

is your FBI page for situations such as you have described above.

Watch for announcements about the "Safe Kids" tip sheet
once it's published. If you need special help getting the
card published in your community, don't hesitate to ask.
If you would like to volunteer to help in this effort,
step up to the plate and contact me.
If you already have such an info sheet in place in your UG,
I would appreciate seeing it. You can respond to my email
address above.
If you would like to CONTRIBUTE it to the Macintosh community
at large, contact me, we're happy to post it in the AACUG
site so that a much wider audience of Mac users will see it.
:-)
