Hi Barbara !
I'd say no change. The classes are ok. Very basic. Scripted or outlined for
staff to follow, I think.
The day the Grove (LA) opened at around 6pm, I was there from about 2pm for
the Press walk-thru. I got to meet most of the staff and get a feel for the
expectations. (Turned out 3 of the Geniuses had come from the 3 towns right
next to my home of Syosset, NY.) I'd talked to 2 of the managers too, about
having a small ug meeting there. I asked if they'd like the store to be a
Mac community place. They said they liked the idea. Next time I talked to
them they turned down the idea. They said the store was not to become a hang
out like that; that there was no accommodations for meetings, however small.
While some people may go to a class or two, the store won't replace your
meetings and the camaraderie there.
If you befriend the staff and tell them about your group, they may even tell
people about your meetings.
And an Apple store validates the Mac well; people see the store and think
it's ok to buy a Mac. I think that some people held a fear due to the
naysayers who forecasted the demise of Apple. But with that big, shiny Apple
hanging over that store in a fancy mall, people see something solid. I think
it removes the doubt. So more people may be buying Macs, and that can mean
more members for you to help.
