Hi Jim,
Adobe defined the pdf format specification. Jaguar uses the technology
for printing purposes and you can easily create pdf files from Jaguar.
I haven't checked the resource you quote but there are various levels
and features offered by Adobe. Acrobat has continuously gotten larger to
accomodate all the features that Adobe supplies with their application.
I would guess pdf995 creates compatible files that can be opened with
Acrobat but cannot endow pdf files with all the bells and whistles that
Adobe provides.
Perhaps others can add their thoughts.

Hi All:
I know this is not a Mac Technical list, but my technical query has a
User Group "twist" to it, so please bear with me.
We all know that Adobe Systems has been a model for Mac vendors when it
comes to their association with User Groups. I am a big fan of Adobe and
try to reflect this both to my User Group members as well as at my place
of employment. It happens that we are in need of purchasing some
additional licenses for Adobe Acrobat at work and I was all ready to set
forth on my quest for funds when someone pointed me at a web site
called:
www.pdf995.com
where, it seems, one can download a free utility which purports to
create pdf files which are every bit as good as those created by
Acrobat. The free version exposes the user to advertising, a small
license fee allows one ot avoid that advertising, and the firm offers
site licenses for larger volume needs.
Now, frankly, I don't have the resources or inclination to undertake a
full evaluation of this alternative product. I was hoping that someone
here might know if there's another side to this story - like the Adobe
side - that I should be aware of. I am wondering if Adobe has offered
any public comment on this kind of utility, or if anyone knows someone
personally at Adobe whom they might approach for "off the record"
comment.
By the way, as far as I know, the pdf995 product is a Windows only
utility.
So, if anyone can help me scratch Adobe's back in return for all the
scratching of my back they have done, that would be great!!
