At Cornell College we do have a number of licenses for the full version
of Acrobat on the Windows side. However, most of the faculty and staff
use pdf995 with absolutely no problems to make pdf files that are then
posted to the web. It's true that many of the Acrobat capabilities are
not present. It is simply a shareware product that converts documents
to pdf. No bells and whistles, no editable text, no hyperlinks. But
it's free and works - two big buzzwords here at Cornell College. It is,
as you mentioned, Windows only, but then so is most of Cornell.
Of course for Mac users we just save as pdf. Much easier. But still,
when we need to do something more complex we use the full Adobe Acrobat.
