Love the thread going on--which I read with amusement (familiar chords were struck re my self-created dilemma).....and heartfelt empathy.

Here's my 2 cents worth, as a Leader burnout casualty:

It took me 4 or 5 years to get another President for our club again, after I went from interim Board Chair to President (new parenthood= previous Pres drop out)...This was also during the "darker days" when somebody had to carry the torch. I stepped up to the Pres plate by "default" as VP. I think it was only because I knew and promoted Robert's rules, that the others felt I could handle it best.

Yep volunteerism is a hard sell. Selling is Not my forte.

Past successful Boards (I was on ours for 10+ years) found that having most Board Members be supported in becoming a Committee Head worked best. They were then responsible for reporting the committee-under him/her-progress, at board meetings. This made it more likely folks would become a board member, as well as encouraging more club members to become involved in "tasks". Delegate, delegate, delegate....worked well; better than Board members having to "do all the work".

PR, Newsletter, First Class BBS, Fundraising, Special Events, Main Meeting, Food, Vendor relations, SIGs, etc--each had a committee-based "pool" of volunteers to be managed; great progress was made when this system was in place.

Next...
In order to have nonprofit status, our user group had to have a set of bylaws,
which reflected some specific criteria necessary to achieve that status <in California>.
It's from from another "boilerplate" and now governs our actions. It's a great resource when questions arise.
It's is a public document/pdf now, for our members to view.

Club Bylaws pdf is located on our club's public folder:

If anybody needs the text based version, to edit and implement for your group, contact me directly.

I love our MUG members and the joy Club activities and web-based only communications bring,
even to shut-ins who cannot attend the meetings (they continue to renew each year).

I'm no sales woman, hence took on rather too much...to keep things going as Board folks dropped out one by one...and no replacement was on the horizon. I'm finally coming up for air and am on committees now, instead of the Board!

There is renewed excitement brewing with the new OS , so we re hoping for more folks to "step up to the plate, now that I have officially stepped down. Hopefully the "younger crowd" will increase...for all of us.

Keep up the good work all! I am sure it is very much appreciated.

<lol>....... now waiting to be entertained.;-) as well!
