We had a similar thing happen here with CompUSA. We had two very highly
qualified applicants for the job...my son, who is president of YoRMUG,
and Del, the president of SMUG. The person hired is nice, fairly
knowledgeable about Macs, and is doing a pretty good job, But either
unemployed expert would have been better. Del was actually the Mac rep
from Marketsource, and became unemployed when the Apple Consultant was
hired. The Mac department at CUSA could easily keep one, or both of
them busy, and have a much better Mac store. Early this month we had a
joint meeting of the two MUGs at CUSA, in a room full of Wintels. It
was great, except that that a mac consultant who has never attended a
meeting of either group was permitted to pass out fliers plugging his
business, but neither Del nor David was asked to do the same to push
their mac-consulting endeavors. Some of us thought that was a little
unfair. On the other hand, everyojne attending received a coupon for
$10 discount on any purchase in May.
