What we do can work for last-minute planning. We have a Christmas dessert
meeting each December. Members are asked to bring a favorite dessert,
preferably home-made but store-bought is OK too and we emphasize that we
want everyone to come regardless of if they can bring anything. The club
buys the soft drinks and furnishes the plasticware and other soft goods.
We've had a couple of catchy names for this: "Dessert Storm" and "Operation
Enduring Calories." We also have holiday music playing as people arrive, to
put them in the spirit.
