Have any of you purchased your own projector, and if so what brand,

I hope this is still timelyI think you should definitely go for bright
and light (portability, that is.)
LIMac has owned at least four projectors over the past 15 or 20 years.
We purchased them with money from our treasury which was generated from
dues and fundraisers. A couple of the machines' purchases were aided by
loans from the membership.
Our current projector is one of the very ones you are considering, the
InFocus LP 530, which we purchased nearly two years ago at its "new
model" price (which was then almost double what it lists for now). It
is used by our general meeting and Photoshop SIG. (Our previous
projector, an older InFocus, model LP 620, is now used by the Beginners
SIG and is brought to each meeting as a back-up. It is _considerably_
heavier and bulkier and not as bright as the 530.) The general meeting
usually averages around 125 people in a fairly large double classroom
at a local university. The room is lit by the typical institutional
fluorescent lighting fixtures, which can be left on if no one objects,
and the image on the screen is perfectly acceptable.
Since you're planning to use the projector for a number of meeting and
SIGs, as I mentioned above portability is important. The LP 530 is a
good choice because it is light and quite small in its case. And oh
yes, do make sure whoever you purchase it from includes the case!
I hope this helps. Good luck in your search and purchase!
