there is a little truth to that right now!)

First, why _not_ look like you don't know what you are doing in Digital Photography at least to some degree? Aren't you involved in the SIG to learn something from others too? If all you are doing is pouring knowledge you've picked up into a vacuous audience, how long will it be before you burn out?

We have three SIGs that really correspond to general experience levels rather than to a specific area such as photography. We literally refer to them as Beginners, Intermediates and Advanced.

The two lower levels are run by their leaders pretty much as instructor and class, although some feedback is encouraged.

Obviously the Beginners need the most guidance. Occasionally the Beginners topic is selected in advance. More often it starts with a question posed by someone who has a problem. We are fortunate to have a retired professor leading this group. Since he is already accustomed to teaching and lecturing, he can turn such a question or questions into an off the cuff lesson for the hour.

The Intermediate group is led by two very active individuals. They usually select a general topic for the evening. One or the other or both will research and prepare all or part of what they plan to cover. They use a lot of Keynote presentations, live demonstrations, etc. Since there are two of them, I think they are able to play off each other to increase the energy of their presentations as well as sharing the workload.

The third, Advanced, group is run as a true discussion group with the leader acting only as facilitator. There is almost never a topic picked in advance, although sometimes the facilitator tosses a few comments out to get things rolling. Questions of the type "How do I do such and such?" are frowned upon. Instead they are more like "This is how I do such and such. What do you do differently?"
