Hi Matt, et all!
I'm a Civil engineer and I've seen the same restrictions in my field
about using Macs in our working environment. So far, there are only two
options for CAD design, VectorWorks ans ArchiCAD, for construction,
estimating, etc, there isn't one single product out there for the Mac
platform so far. This happens in almost all the engineering disciplines,
except for Software Eng, Bioengineering and some others we can count in
our hand fingers, not much for structures analysis since OS9, etc..
If you want to take a look to www.questsolutions.com, they develop a
great estimating, earthwork and roadwork software, and I convinced them
to start working on a Mac and Linux version; It's the most logical way
to convince them, if you mention Linux, they know many companies are
migrating from Win to Linux for security and cost reasons... and from a
Linux code to a Mac is a much shorter way.
It would be great if you and your group leave your comments and
suggestions to Quest Solutions, if we make a common effort they will
probably release the first version earlier.
