Hello Fellow MUG Leaders,
NCMUG (of Santa Rosa, CA) will be having their 12th annual Mac Computer
Expo. Currently we have 22 vendors and an awesome line up of speakers. We
have about 6 weeks before the event. We are very excited and have a planning
committee that works well together to make this event happen every year.

What I am looking for are more suggestions on how to get the word out to the
public. This year we will be posting ads in our local paper, I have notified
all the local MUGs in the area and we have people posting fliers around
Sonoma county.
What resources have you used to let the world know about your events?
I'm doing a presentation on Twenty Mac Years - A history of the
Macintosh, through the Advertisements of Apple Computer next week at
AUSOM Incorporated, my local user group in Melbourne, Australia and
then again in September in Wellington New Zealand.
To promote the event at AUSOM, I wrote a short press release (which
can be seen at
http://www.nicholaspyers.com/pr/20040710-twentymacyears/) and
submitted that to a number of Macintosh News sites.
Over the years, I have good relationship with the Apple Australia
webmaster and submitted the Press Release to her and a blurb was
added to the Apple Australia Hotnews and Usergroups pages
<
http://www.apple.com.au/hotnews/> and
<
http://www.apple.com.au/usergroups/>. Looking at my site stats I've
been getting a steady flow of hits from both pages each day.
Also, I have a good relationship with the Editor of Australian
Macworld and the same press release was sent to him and a great blurb
was published in the August issue of Australian Macworld.
However the best forum I found is the MUG Center website
<
http://www.mugcenter.com/>. I submitted the press release to Chuck
Joiner and the presentation was mentioned in the latest MUG News.
This was then picked up by MacMinute.com <
http://www.macminute.com/>
and the hits to my Twenty Mac Years page sky-rocketed 10-fold in a
day.
So my advice is contact the various Mac News sites and see what they
can do but be sure to write a blurb for Chuck to use at the MUG
Center.
