Arizona Macintosh User Group is nonprofit, we became so many years ago. Of
course at that time we sold tons of shareware and provided a discount source
of books and supplies for our members. In turn we used the proceeds to run
several BBSs, put on frequent classes, and rent large auditoriums for
meetings and presentations. Being nonprofit made sense in that the income
was being poured back into education of the members and even the community.
If I were starting over, I would not choose nonprofit. I don't believe the
few benefits outweigh the paperwork and filings that are required.
