At our February meeting, we also demoed GarageBand. We had a local DJ
come in and remix something that I had quickly slapped together. It
worked out really well, even with the DJ not having very much
experience with GarageBand. He was used to Logic and ProTools, but he
said that many of the keyboard shortcuts were the same as in those
programs. He had a lot of fun at the meeting, so everyone else had a
great time in turn...plus we bought a bunch of Pepsi to share and then
raffled off any free songs that were won from any of the bottles at the
end of the meeting.
After the GarageBand stuff we also showed some of the cool features of
iTunes that people might not know about, like the shopping cart thing
in the preferences.....it was just one big night of music.

Our group had a demo of GarageBand at our February meeting.
We started out showing some pre-constructed, original tracks, but the
session quickly degenerated into the audience wanting to create
something
of their own. We ended up composing music on the fly, with people
yelling
out, "Try this, try that...yeah, that works...no, that's terrible."
(The
latter in response to trying Latin horn stabs with metal guitar.)
We had lots of laughs and fun, and best of all, got most of the
attendees
involved, whether or not they had any musical training.
Has anyone else stumbled on any especially effective ways of
demonstrating GarageBand or any of the other iLife apps? This is just
too
great an app not to share.
