I agree. TMUG tried this with a membership of 200+ and flopped big
time. We
then went for logoed ball caps and sold 10 of the 50 we had to buy. We
even put
up a page of reverse image logos in various sizes that members could
download
and iron on to shirts. The only success we've had is when we started
to offer
a free raffle ticket for each logoed item a member wears to a meeting.
Including a logoed ball cap in each raffle helped some.
I set up a cafepress store for ours...

I love cafepress, you make a free account, upload your graphics to
their specifications (they even have templates), pick your products,
and add on $ to the base cost to determine your profit per item. Say a
shirt base cost is $15, make it $20 and the profit for your MUG is $5.
They make them, they ship them. You do nothing else. It's really really
easy. No deadline, they can buy the whenever they want, shop owner can
buy without the profit point to give as prizes.
I have four shops for my mug, since the free accounts only let you have
one design of each item, and I wanted a few, so they are linked
together in the shop description with plain html.
anyone wants to ask questions, I'll be happy to help...
