<< Our group, AppleQuerque Macintosh Computer Club, has had a PDF
newsletter since September of 2002. We do provide a snail-mailed hard
copy for those who request it, though the hard copy is sure to get to
the member long after the digital version is made available. We try to
have a few hard copies at our general membership meeting as well.
Members receive notice via email to go to the member login area. They
are reminded at that time what the login and password are. We provide a
PDF for broadband connections (~900-1100K), a PDF for modems
connections (~400-600K,) and a text based newsletter. The newsletter
editor makes the URLs in the PDF versions clickable.
Going to PDF has allowed the newsletter editor more freedom with
design. Our newsletter is now in color for one. But basically it is the
same layout as before (two column on 8.5" x 11" portrait, usually).
The whole process did not come without complaints, but what we save in
printing and postage is in the bank to buy such things at an LCD
projector (still saving) and a wireless router (money alloted), which
will enhance our member experience at our meetings. >>
Here is something you may want to try out. Kinkos will give User Groups a
discount for on their coping and other services as long as what you do is for
your group. If you are doing flyers for your next meeting or your newsletters and
having them mailing them out on their bulk permit, they will give you a
couple of bucks off. You might want to check it out.
