Here is the full MUG Kinko's deal info. Make sure once you have
arranged this at a designated Kinko's to have it all in writing and the
names of your BOD people designated to place orders. We have found that
from shift to shift there are problems with locating the deal
information. Having the letter in hand makes it smooth. We found the
quality of service to be very good.
As I said though the cost was still prohibitive. We would also like to
have a MUG Mac and an LCD projector. Besides dicontinuing the monthly
newsletter we have made arrangements to have our web site hosted for
free in exchange for a button on our web site. We are also strongly
pushing to have our MUG voicemail discontinued. It is never used, and
cost $17 a month. Our current membership costs $40 and we have no plans
in increasing the membership fee.
The caveat to the cost of printing though is we are following up with
an idea I saw on this list about having stores distribute postcards
about our MUG. We have ran that by the Apple Store where we have our
meetings and they have agreed to distribute one of our postcard with
meeting info to each person that buys a Mac at their store. That is
going to be a lot of postcards! The store is the busiest one with
30,000 visitors a week. We are anticipating a surge in new membership
that will buy more post cards. :-)

<< Our group, AppleQuerque Macintosh Computer Club, has had a PDF
newsletter since September of 2002. We do provide a snail-mailed hard
copy for those who request it, though the hard copy is sure to get to
the member long after the digital version is made available. We try to
have a few hard copies at our general membership meeting as well.
Members receive notice via email to go to the member login area. They
are reminded at that time what the login and password are. We provide a
PDF for broadband connections (~900-1100K), a PDF for modems
connections (~400-600K,) and a text based newsletter. The newsletter
editor makes the URLs in the PDF versions clickable.
Going to PDF has allowed the newsletter editor more freedom with
design. Our newsletter is now in color for one. But basically it is the
same layout as before (two column on 8.5" x 11" portrait, usually).
The whole process did not come without complaints, but what we save in
printing and postage is in the bank to buy such things at an LCD
projector (still saving) and a wireless router (money alloted), which
will enhance our member experience at our meetings. >>
Here is something you may want to try out. Kinkos will give User
Groups a
discount for on their coping and other services as long as what you do
is for
your group. If you are doing flyers for your next meeting or your
newsletters and
having them mailing them out on their bulk permit, they will give you a
couple of bucks off. You might want to check it out.
