Hi David,
here some ideas:
- searching files in finder
- in case you have 2 hd's in the g5, copying large files (idvd
projects for example) between drives
- seti@home graphical version
- audio manipulation and simultaneous track using (e.g. in Logic or
GarageBand)
- 3D Rendering with Maya, Bryce or similar
- Apple's Shake
- iMovie of FCP effects and transitions rendering
- iDVD encoding, don't have a G5 but I heard the G5 is capable of
realtime video encoding so you could hit the burn button in iDVD
shortly before the demo and once you are finished with your
introduction the DVD will be completed
- Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 Benchmark, this is very impressive on a
fast computer like the G5

I'm going to be demo'ing a G5 dual, 2 GHz machine this weekend for our
user group and am kind of stuck for ideas. Any recommendations on what
tasks people would like to see a G5 perform?
The only thing that I have planned right now is a demo on compressing a
30 minute video, which is something that a lot of people in this group
are interested in since many of them use their Macs to archive old
video programs. Any suggestions would be very welcome.
