What do you see as your group's most important asset: your web site or

I think part of the response to this question has to do with the
resources (person or persons) you have driving the newsletter and the
web site.
In our case, we stumbled upon a newsletter editor several years ago who
has been just marvelous. He never seems to miss a deadline and
consistently produces a 16 to 20 page document each month. Most of the
content is developed by this same individual. Luckily for us, he works
in a profession where he is "on call" for hours on end but often not
particularly busy, and he is able to access his Mac during these quiet
periods. In other words, he has the time to do all this. I was recently
doing a little housekeeping on our web site, establishing a consistent
file naming convention for all our monthly newsletters and as part of
this I needed to test download each edition. When they downloaded, they
of course automatically opened in Preview. It was really interesting to
see over three years worth of these newsletters appear on screen, in
colour, attesting to the work that our chap has put into this labour of
love.
On the other hand, our web site has the potential to affect even more
people but lacks this kind of resource person who has both the time and
the passion to dedicate to it. It was originated by someone who was
quite concerned about keeping it simple so that people with older Macs
using dialup ISP's wouldn't have to wait too long for pages to appear,
but as a result it is a bit "plain" looking by today's standards. I
think we do keep it current, but I have a "to do" list of lots of
improvements I would like to see made to the site in order to retain
its usefulness to the public but dramatically increase its usefulness
to our club members. The issue is not whether or not it is less or more
important than the newsletter but rather just the fact that we have a
terrific resource person for the newsletter but not to the same degree
for the web site.
My two cents (Canadian!) worth.
