I don't know about the rest of you Ambassadors, but I work for my UG rather than for Apple. My primary obligations are to my UG's members. Yes, sometimes that does mean learning more about Apple products than the average person. However, it doesn't mean I should become another sales channel for Apple marketing. Apple's primary goal in changing the requirements appear, to me anyway, to force more of their sales drivel down my gullet than they were able to before.
Oh, and yes, I have taken courses sufficient to continue getting the .Mac account which started out COMPLETELY free of such obligations a few years ago. I've done so even though our UG uses other resources for web and such and has derived, at most, minimal benefit from the account. Why? I'm not sure I know. Maybe we need to step back for a minute. When I was our Apple Ambassador, I didn't bother with the free .mac account. I accessed the sales web as needed through my own personal .mac account. Our club has its own web site, with its own domain name (something you can't do with a .mac account), and its own forum. You can have the best of both worlds, guys. Now, how about we all get along.
