I used to think everyone in the Apple crowd were nice friendly people. With the
way this thread has turned so sarcastically nasty I am having to re-evaluate my
opinions.
What on earth is wrong with asking for a discount for heavens sake? Nobody asked
for anything free, nobody is suggesting PCs are better, yet at least two replies
to what was a perfectly aceptable, normal and supportable email have IMO shown
the writers out to be more childish than the average 8 year old.
People who are instrumental in setting up, running or supporting Mac User Groups
put in a lot of unpaid work that directly benefits Apple as a company, a company
that is cash rich with a billionaire boss. I have no knowledge of what kinds of
discount employees receive, but IF they get them because they work for Apple in
exchange for a salary, what is wrong with MUGers receiving a discount for
working for Apple for free?
As for the Rolling Stones jibe, I can assure the writer that yes, it is standard
music business practice to give out lots of free merchandise to publicise their
products. How else do you think they first get played on Radio stations,
interviewed on TV, in newpapers and music magazines?
I suppose I shouldn't expect ideas less naive from 8 year old level personalities.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Rolling Stones would give fans a discount to buy
their music and go to their concerts? An education discount would be nice for
us learning the Air-Guitar.
Since we're dreaming here, a free boxed set of all their #1 hits would be
even better.
You could substitute anything you've chosen to prefer, you know?
Of course it was my choice to support my favorite rock and roll band. I could
have chosen any other and closed all doors and windoze to the second through
last Greatest Rock-n-Roll bands.
I support Apple and Macintosh because I want to, not because I'm gonna get
more then I paid for.
Curiously, when you think about it, getting a Macintosh does give you more
then you paid for. You buy the Mac and get the web browser, and the iTunes music
player, and the iPhoto, and the iDVD, and the iMovie, and the Garage Band,
and the Mail program ... all working seamlessly on a machine that just works.
I know a lot of people that have tons of FREE stuff in their PeeCee's. It is
what it is worth that matters, not what you pay.
That's just my opinion and I may be wrong.
