Title: Re: AUGD: Canceling a MUG meeting
No sure why we do things the way we do but we have our Annual General Meeting and Elections in November. The December meeting is a less formal event.
This year we’re having it a member’s home. We’re planning a look back at the year and we are very fortunate to have in our membership a singer in the Australian Opera. He’ll be talking about Mac things musical and perhaps gracing us with a song.
But December’s meeting is less formal and by doing elections in November we get by the traditional low turnout.
On the other, you could run a postal ballot if your constitution allows it and you can’t move the election date.

Hi all. I haven't been following the chatter on this list for a while, so please excuse me if this kind of topic has recently been covered. Say you have a user group considering canceling its December meeting because no presenter or topic has been developed, and because it's concerned turnout will be low. Say its bylaws require that it have a meeting every month, and that a nominating slate be presented at the Dec. mtg., ahead of the Jan. election meeting. How hard would you push to just have the meeting anyway, in order to comply with the bylaws? Or would you figure, hey, no big deal, move forward and have the next meeting whenever you can? Or would you say maybe it's serious enough that if you aren't able to put on the meeting, the group should consider disbanding? These would all be decisions the group would have to make on its own of course, but I'm just curious if others have gone through this thought process.

We had the same problem. The December meeting was our annual party and election of officers. Each year the number of people who showed up became less and less. We went to the membership and suggested that we delete the December meeting. We indicated that there are so many holiday parties and family activities during December, it was hard to decide which to do and which not to do. We now have our elections and party in early November and skip the December meeting. It worked well for our small group.
