That plain text email compresses much better on it's way thru your modem.
A jpg won't (it's compressed already). The time difference between
the two is likely 10:1
Please stare at the screen for the next 20-30 seconds....by the clock....
Now repeat for all ten emails you've got incoming.... still there?
Force me to wait 30 seconds and I'm already in a bad mood before I get
to your pretty message - so how do you think I'm going to react to it?
It's like somebody jumping you at your front door to sell you
something when you are trying to get to your car. Your first
impression is so bad the admittedly more attractive message can't make
up for it - assuming my mail reader (which isn't your mail reader)
renders it anywhere near the way you intended it!
Typical example - my wife is looking for an email from a relative
about an upcoming family event that is important to her. The first
three emails are from large corporations about their latest products,
beautiful layouts I bet they spent many thousands of dollars
developing - and my wife is cursing at them because they are
preventing her from seeing the message she actually wants to see at
that time. The kinds of email we are discussing here aren't going
to be the main reason somebody hit the 'send and receive' button, so
they'd better not be in the way or nobody's gonna want them.
