Here are some question I have.
1. Why not show this hack with the Airport card rather than a 3rd party
card. Seems like if you did that, you would have more credibility.
2. Under sys prefs ---> network ---> show airport
There is a setting, allow this computer to create network. Did the hack
have this enabled or not? Again, if that was disabled and they were
able to still hack in, problem. By not showing this in the video, they
come across a little Mac ignorant.
Good tip, make sure that is unchecked, unless you need a peer2peer
airport network.
Still, they were able to gain access to the desktop with out a PW. (I
guess, who knows what was in that "script" )
3. They said the hack works regardless of the connection status on the
Mac 3rd party WIFI card, it need only be turned on. Again - why not
demonstrate it this way? Why connect the MacBook to the PC and then
hack the PC into the Mac? That seemed to lessen their creditability.
I am only trying to get feedback because our group may have a number of
users with third party WIFI cards. It is going to come up during our
next Q and A .

This is a little fishy - why use the third party NIC? No-one I know

If this issue was raised using the Airport Extreme card in the MacBook
then
I'd be a little more concerned. But the third party USB NIC makes this
seem
a little, well, weird.
I'll grant that there may be issues with drivers but I don't see this
as
being any more than a contrived attempt at publicity using an
artificial
setting to achieve a specific result.
