...stay in touch with your family.
Not just you, your wife, your kids (I'm missing the second and third
ones in the list, but that's a different story altogether), but your
Macintosh compatriots. Your six-color-by-blood family folk for life
("If you were to cut my arm off, I would bleed six colors..." -- Guy
Kawasaki).
Little story of my trips outside mainland China...
* March 2002. BeiMac was founded.
* August 2002. On a trip to Switzerland, I spill the beans about
BeiMac to eastern Switzerland and the Mac user group (MUS
Switzerland) there. They were interested in this stuff.
* January 2003. I head back to Confederatio Helveticae and meet the
head of MUS Switzerland, and join up with fellow Swiss Mac
compatriots at a nationwide MUS meeting.
* June 2003. SARS, for sure, but that was nothin'. I head to
Switzerland (yet again; I've lived there from 1988 to 2000), and join
up again in eastern Switzerland with MUS. I also happened to meet
Mario from the Swiss-Austrian Rheintaler Macintosh User Group. Email
chimes in: Chise is in Geneva. I get to meet her there as well. Then
back to Zurich -- and a meetup with Sun Yuan-Yuan. In the midst of
all this, I also get to meet a Chinese Mac user who's a member at
MacFans China.
* July 2005. I get to visit Derek, head of MACItizen Hong Kong, and
Belle and Bill from the HK Univ. Mac User Group. Sure, my flight was
held up again on the way back, but that's nothin'... ;-)
* December 2005. Our secretary, Ketty, heads up south and meets up
with Derek from MACitizen again.
* January 2006. MWSF. I get to meet up with the gang at Moscone, and
also at EBMUG.
* June 2006. I meet up with the guy behind elesson Shanghai (who also
used to spearhead AppleUnion -- it's in the Locator.)
* August 2006. Another trip to HK. Another meetup with HKUMUG, and
this time, I do my bit -- a little speech at MACitizen's August
meeting, telling them how things shape up north of the border into
mainland China. Also, I meet up with the man behind Mactivity HK.
Now if the INS would just confirm I left the US "legally" (sad but
true: they forgot to rip the "Departure Card" in the midst of an 11-
hour-long flight delay when I left SF on January 14th! I sent these
guys at the INS proof that I left... never got a response back... if
you don't see me in Jan 2007 -- now you may know why...)
All the best,
David Feng
