Just checked again today (8/5) Picasa web site still says it is windows
only. That would be enough to stop most of my members. Also, it is
invite only, which really is not much of an issue, but, still a barrier.

It's not Picasa that José's noting. It's Picasa Web Albums - a different program and only available on Google's web site. That's why you can't find it on the Picasa web site. (Of course, Picasa should have this info on their web site, but their purchase by Google appears to have caused problems. Google's web site now appears to be the best place to get product info.)

Finally, there are thousands of cool applications for the Mac,
publishing photo albums is only one. Actually I think most of my group
that would be interested in that are already publishing photo albums (
via dot mac, no doubt). I guess it is a good thing that google is
playing catch up, but no, I am not really that interested in keeping
track of what google is up to. There are more interesting and valuable
things in the Mac world.

You might want to rethink this. Google are now a dominant player in the computer industry, challenging Microsoft itself. To ignore them is to ignore significant happenings in the industry that are of interest to your members.
