This functionality is also built in to a lot of servers. My Webstar V server
can automatically build a page which includes a search box that can index
PDF's and generate a dynamic page with the search results. My Xserves
running Tiger Server are capable of the same type of thing but use Spotlight
to generate the search form and results page instead.
As mentioned elsewhere there are many other 3rd party solutions that can do
similar tasks. For example the 2 MUGs I run also take advantage of Google's
search capabilities via a PHP interface built into the CMS we use for our
sites that also does the same thing. I'm sure you will end up with lots of
options to choose from.
