Since there are NO MACINTOSH VIRUSES…
Just be aware that this is seen by some as splitting hairs.
Well... It's not splitting hairs! Anti-Viral medicine is not going to protect you from bacterial infections or mishaps. Seat-belts won't protect you from viruses.

But Anti-virus software will protect you from Trojans. So, rethink your metaphors. This isn't a biological agent, it's computer software. You've just made yourself look silly.

There are currently no Mac Viruses. I instruct my members that Anti- Virus software is good. It protects their friends that have PCs from getting a virus passed on from their immune Mac. It's not necessary, currently to protect the Mac though. What is important is to know how to handle unsolicited email attachments (and now iChat attachments). It's also important to know where it's safe to download software on the internet and where it isn't safe.

I do tell them that it's possible that there might be some virus that will infect Macs in the future! God knows there are those diligently working on it. When (not if) it occurs, they will be alerted by many sources including the Club with instructions on how to avoid and remove the virus if already infected.

There is absolutely no reason that the average Mac user should have to live with the paranoia that plagues PC users! It's one of the benefits of having chosen Macintosh.

I hope, Anthony, that you'll not mind me providing your email address to each and every person who gets infected with the malware to come. And also those who I know will never be able to retain the cluefulness required to keep a Mac immune.

Okay?

M
