Hi,
A couple of ideas. One might be to take a look at the family tree.
Jim Chaffin is the one asking for help, and the guest on the most
recent MacNotables (www.macnotables.com) is Bryan Chaffin. Any
relation? :)
OK, on to something more helpful, there are some other options. As
I'm sure you know, the MUG center has a lot of vendors willing to
help in various ways. I'd suggest contacting each of the vendors in
this list:
http://www.mugcenter.com/vendor/vendorprograms.html
They may not provide full speakers, but they can provide many forms
of support, as they have done for The Rest of Us.
And if you want to help the speaker out, you can offer something like
a BnB (bed and breakfast) to defray the cost of a motel room. If
there are any members who can do this, it can save a ton of money for
the speaker. Yes, they would still need to provide their own
transportation, but if members can help the speakers, that is
something to consider.
It might also help to directly contact the MUGs in your area. By
"your area", I mean an area of a radius of several hundred miles,
basically a day's drive. I'm sure many people would love to come to
Memphis for a couple of days. In my experience, getting speakers is a
matter of a lot of teamwork, and making lots of contacts. The bottom
line is the members will greatly benefit from the work that gets
done, and that's one of the really cool benefits of being in a Mac
user group :)
I hope this helps!
