Hopefully one day the groups below will work with Nicholas & me in

It's a great vision, and similiarily over here in New Zealand we are
tying to bring together the varying MUGs into some co-operative
common banner, but alas to date, a lot of fragmentation and
repetition of effort still occurs.
A fair bit of the reason in the past has been groups not wanting to
bear an additional financial burden for the sake of promoting a
nationwide meta group, but also a lot of politics about who "owns" it
or controls it. In my opinion, everyone should have access to submit
events and update their groups details, and maybe a collective
moderation scheme woudl work for ensuring each MUG has a voice.. (in
an online sense)
I personally would love to see it happen, and following a meeting in
2004 (which Nicholas was at) of representatives from Nationwide MUGs,
I set about providing some hosting space (some MUGs don't have a
website or mug email because of the perceived cost and lack of
value!), email lists and general online services with my own money at
http://nzmac.org - which was intended to replace and expand the
function of http://nzmac.netfirms.com - which is maintained my the
secretary of our group - WelMac
Generally it is perceived that .Mac at $199 is not financially
worthwhile - given the poor broadband connectivity over here. The
cost of hosting nzmac.org for me is less than what I pay for
membership of my local mug ;)
A fair few of the un-affiliated mac users in NZ use a set of forums
provided at http://nzmac.com
I do like the idea of the meetings widget too :)
