IMHO, all that Apple needs to do to Pages is add Cell and FMPLite, both with Automaker actions. That would be a perfect basic package.
As far as painting, I use a combination of Photoshop Elements and Graphic Converter. I'd rather not see Apple replicating the Microsoft philosophy of 'just buy the company,' however. Mr. Lemke has done tremendous work on his own without a big corporations aid. In the eight or so years that I have used GC, Mr. Lemke has charged only ONCE for an upgrade! Apple can't make a claim like that.
And PE is reasonably priced, and gives me layers and basic quick effects. It wold be nice, however, if both programs would add some automated functions. Then we'd be set.
