Well I learned, Again, that a Reply to this list goes to the message originator but not the discussion group. My other lists work the other way

To respond to Allen's request

My MUG is the Naples, Florida MUG. We have been in existence for over 25 years and are an Apple only group. There are 3+ other MUGs within 40 miles of us but we are the only one in Collier county.
We currently have over 250 member units, about 70 are households of more than one individual. We have added 51 member units in the past 12 months; of these about 30% are under retirement age, the others are retired.
Our closest Apple store is >100 miles away; we do have a CompUSA 25 miles away. We expect an Apple store to open in Naples around Feb 2007.

Our emphasis is education, teaching the new to Apple how to become effective and teaching all the new, popular applications. We determine the needs by member surveys. Last year we ran 8 formal, 3 hour classed at a local college during "in-season" with average attendance of 30 paying club members for Tiger, the iLife apps, and photo editing using Photoshop elements.
In addition to the formal classes, we hold a 1.5 hr meeting every Wednesday where any member can pose questions and collectively we answer the question.
Finally, we have a 'closed to members only' discussion group (using Yahoo) where members pose questions and every member receives the query and collectively answers are provided.

Now, regarding AUGD I read every message and participate occasionally with a response. I usually find a message or two to forward to my Board to give them insight into what other groups are doing (or thinking) about challenges we are facing. I don't know what, exactly, people are referring to about preferring Forums. Our Yahoo Discussion group has extensive threads and archive of messages so members can go back to explore topics by subject.
